University Police Department Has a Gift for City’s Residents-Free National Bike Registry Protection

November 12, 2009

The CSU Channel Islands Police Department in Camarillo, CA, along with the neighboring Community of University Glen have teamed up with National Bike Registry (NBR®) to offer local residents a free way to protect their bicycles, in case they are stolen. The launch of the program is particularly timely, since new bikes are always popular holiday gifts.

The Channel Islands Police Department and University Glen are giving away an NBR bike registration kit (a $10 retail value) to any bike owner in the community who requests one. The Police Department and University Glen will be distributing the free kits on a continuous basis to current and new home owners/renters, at the police station and the university, as well as at community events. Students can obtain an NBR bike registration kit from the Police Department, the University Bicycle Kitchen club, the University Glen leasing office and the new Student Union opening on the first of the new year.

The NBR kit includes a 10-year NBR registration, a special tamper-resistant, serialized security label for the bike, and a bonus label that gives the user BoomerangIt Lost & Found Return Service for cell phones, PDAs, laptops, cameras or other valuable gear, also for 10 years. Bicycle owners simply apply the labels from the NBR bike registration kit, then register the serial number and description of the bike in the NBR secure database. The finder of a bicycle, either the police or a Good Samaritan, calls 800-848-BIKE or accesses the NBR website at www.nationalbikeregistry.com to trigger a notification to the owner.

NBR is the only national bike registry system and is searchable by police departments nationwide so they can track down the rightful owners of the bikes they recover, no matter where the bikes may be recovered. This gives bike owners a better chance of getting their stolen bikes back.

For more information, contact the CSU Channel Islands Police Department at 805.437.8444 or kevin.medley@csuci.edu.

Citizens from around the country can obtain the NBR registration kit at participating retailers, police departments, or online at http://www.nationalbikeregistry.com and www.boomerangit.com. If you are a police department interested in offering NBR protection, e-mail us at nbr@boomerangit.com.

Looking for the Perfect Holiday Gift?

October 28, 2009

NBR bike and a pack

Bicycles are always a popular holiday gift, and BoomerangIt, the world’s leading lost & found recovery service, is helping protect shoppers’ bicycle purchases with one of its best-selling products this season – the National Bike Registry (NBR®) Pack.

Bike theft has always been a problem and this year is no different. 44 percent of law enforcement personnel responding to a Police Executive Research Forum survey reported increases in crime levels that they believe are connected to the economy, with the most significant increases being in property crime.

The NBR bike registration pack offers the gift of security for a bike and another item (a bike accessory, electronic device, or another bike) for only $10 for 10 years. The owner simply applies the NBR tamper-resistant ID label to the bike, then records the serial number and bike description in the NBR database which is searchable by police nationwide. This increases the chances of getting your stolen bike back.

NBR packs are perfect for consumers who want to safeguard their new, and not so new, bikes and can be obtained at participating retailers like REI, police departments, or online at www.nationalbikeregistry.com and www.boomerangit.com. In addition, BoomerangIt also offers packages for mobile electronics, luggage, travel and sports gear. Prices start at just $6.25 for a pack of two labels and two luggage tags, good for 10 years.

Welcome To The BoomerangIt Blog!

April 3, 2009

Welcome to the BoomerangIt Blog! Our blog is based on a simple idea: we want to share our experience with you. Thankfully, a lost & found service provides a lot of great material people want to hear about – successful returns of lost and stolen items, interesting recoveries by police and lost & founds, stories of honesty and human kindness, types of lost items and places where they were lost, lost & found stats & surveys. People want to know that the service works and it is our goal to share the experience of customers from your country, state, town, and community who got their items back because of BoomerangIt.

Here, we’ll be celebrating the finders who help return an item to its owner and the owners who take the time to register their belongings, without them we wouldn’t exist. We will also educate about our products and service – for example, how to check if your lost item has been found or how police and lost & found personnel can search the database – and provide useful personal property and bike safety tips. On occasion, we will tell you about new BoomerangIt products, partnerships, events, contests, interesting technologies and latest developments from the industry. We’ll also take a peek at what’s going on at our National Bike Registry.

The blog is written collaboratively by the BoomerangIt staff – from our execs to our customer service reps. You will see our names and have a way to connect with us to share your thoughts and comments.

So, let the sharing begin! We hope this will be the place where you learn more about our service, values and traditions, and get to know us better. We will know we have succeeded when you participate in the conversation.

Sincerely,

The Folks at BoomerangIt
